What
is Cost Effective Care?
Cost
Effective Care is the delivery of the best possible health
care to the patient in the most cost effective manner. It
does not mean cutting corners, or delivering sub-standard care.
It implies doing what should and must be done, in a timely, professional,
thorough, and effective way, and being fairly reimbursed for such
care.
Cost
Effective Care implies that you bill, and are properly
compensated for, all services performed. It implies holding
Insurance Companies accountable for paying what they have agreed
to pay. It implies holding your patients responsible (if you
choose) to meet their obligations as well. It implies that
money is always collected that is owed, and that it can be proven
that all such money has indeed been collected.
Cost
Effective Care implies that you have adequate documentation
to support your charges.
Cost
Effective Care implies that you have all clinical information
organized and accessible for each and every patient. Clinical
information can be summarized and viewed in ways that assist the
provider in medical decision making. All clinical information
that is tracked is useful, and no information is ever lost.
Cost
Effective Care implies outcome-based medicine.
It implies that you can prove the care you have given is the best
care possible for the patient's condition.
Cost
Effective Care implies that you can intuitively document
everything done on the patient's behalf without slowing down your
(or your staff's) ability to see patients. It also implies
that nothing ever has to be entered twice.
Cost
Effective Care implies that communication between providers
and staff happens automatically, as a side-effect of intuitive documentation
processes. What is documented on behalf of the patient should
also imply what staff members are to being doing in the near future
on behalf of the patient. In fact, if one documented fact
implies two (or more) results/actions, those multiple results/actions
should be immediately known to all concerned.
Cost
Effective Care implies that the provider and his/her
staff are working as individuals and as a team to deliver affordable
health care in the most effective way possible. Providers
and their staff use their minds to move information, not their muscles
to move paper.
